Why You Should Start Wedding Planning Early (And Hire Your Planner First)

Starting wedding planning a year—or even two years—ahead of your wedding day is no longer uncommon. But we still regularly receive inquiries from couples who are just a few months away from saying “I do.” And while we love stepping in to help at any stage, planning early—when possible—always creates a smoother, more enjoyable experience.
Here’s why.

1. The Best Vendors Book Early
Will there be vendors available for your date? Yes.
Will your first-choice photographer, florist, or venue still be available? Maybe.
The most sought-after vendors typically book well in advance (with a few lucky exceptions). When you begin early, you’re choosing from the best fit for your vision—not simply who is still available.
This is also where hiring a planner early becomes invaluable. Over the years, I’ve cultivated trusted relationships with talented vendors who consistently deliver exceptional work. That trust translates into smoother communication, stronger collaboration, and a noticeably calmer planning process for you.

2. Hiring a Planner Early Creates a Calm Foundation
One of the most impactful decisions you can make is hiring your planner early—sometimes even first.
From the very beginning, I guide my couples through each step: building a realistic budget, prioritizing what matters most, securing key vendors, and shaping the overall design direction. Even with my Event Management (day-of) package, support begins well before the wedding week.
You’re never left wondering what’s next or worrying that something important has slipped through the cracks.

3. You Actually Get to Enjoy Your Engagement
When major decisions—guest list, venue, vendor team, initial design concept—are handled early, the rest of the process feels lighter. Instead of scrambling, you get to savor tastings, fittings, and design details.

Your engagement season should feel joyful, not rushed.
Starting early doesn’t mean planning every detail immediately. It simply means giving yourself options, guidance, and space to enjoy the process.
If you can start early, do. Involve a planner from the beginning. And allow your engagement to feel as beautiful as the wedding day itself.
