My job often starts months, or even more than a year, before a wedding. I guide, counsel, suggest, plan, and gather information, putting it all together to form a cohesive and smooth experience on wedding day.
But sometimes we arrive and even our best-laid plans have glitches. It's normal, and something we are used to. Whether it's creating a dessert table because all we have are boxes of cupcakes, rearranging table settings because of cancellations, creating a wedding ring out of wire because the groom forgot his at home, or making a boutonniere because they were one short, we do what we have to to make sure everything is perfect.
And sometimes we do things that our couples will never know about.
Recently, my assistant single-handedly saved the dance party. The DJ's selections were fine for some parties, but this crowd wanted something different, and she picked up on it. She fed him suggestions several times (which he received gratefully!) and we watched, amused, as her song picks cleared the tables and filled the dance floor. It ended up being a great dance party!
Do we receive credit for all we do? Maybe not, but that's not the point. The point is that it's our job, and our privilege, to deliver the very best day we possibly can.
And we wouldn't have it any other way.
