Happy New Year! We finished 2024 well with a wonderful Christmas wedding in December. We seem to do one every year, and I absolutely love them.
Looking back on what we saw trending in our 2024 weddings, we see some patterns. And as I talk to this summer's clients, I'm paying attention to what they are envisioning for their weddings and seeing some fun things stand out.
So, here are my Top 10 Wedding Trends for 2025!
Private Vows - most couples do a first look and many choose to do their personal vows in a private setting, the photographer being the only one present. In their ceremony, they either do traditional vows or no vows at all (just the "I Do's"). This can be a sweet moment for the couple. (Photo by Megan Jo Nealy)
Private Vows at The Rainier Club Pocket Squares for the Gents - rather than traditional boutonnieres, pocket square florals are all the rage. (Photo by Moch Snyder)
Groomsman Pocket Square by Flora d'Amore Custom Suit for the Groom - Many grooms want their attire to shine also! A custom suit is the way to stand out, and they can wear it again. (Photo by Megan Jo Nealy)
Groom's Custom Suit by Sew Generously Mismatched Bridesmaids Dresses - While the trend toward mismatched styles (but same fabric) has been around for a while, we are seeing completely different colors, patterns, styles, lengths and fabrics now. Loving it! (Photo by Chelsea Terry)
Mismatched Bridesmaid Dresses on Whidbey Island Multi-Colored Florals - White and blush will always have a place in the traditional wedding style, but we are loving the vibrant colors we are seeing! (Photo by Nick Hanyok)
Multi-Colored Florals by Verbena Floral Lots of Candles - Many couples are opting for a strong use of candles instead of (or along with) florals. This creates a beautiful atmosphere! (Photo by Laura Wick)
Candlelight at The Seattle Yacht Club An Outfit Change, especially the bride - this is a fun way for the bride to enjoy her dance party, and after all, who doesn't want two dresses?? This bride also cut her hair when she changed! (Photo by Fern and Flower Photography)
Dress Change at The Lodge at St. Edward's Park Tossing the Bouquet Toss - many couples are skipping this tradition and just dancing the night away without interruption!
Cutting Cakes and Fun Desserts - instead of the multi-tiered traditional wedding cake, we are seeing a lot of small cutting cakes (for those traditional photos), then guests are served cookies, ice cream, or another alternative dessert. No one is complaining! (Photo by Chelsea Terry)
Cutting Cake by Honeycrumb Cakes Live Bands - instead of the traditional DJ, we are seeing live bands, and we are loving it! From jazz to oldies to traditional wedding songs, these musicians are adding an ambiance that can't be had any other way.
